Nepal on Sunday observed the International Everest Day by unveiling the pictures of Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgey, the first persons to scale Mt Everest in a park here.
It was the 58th anniversary of the conquest of Everest, the highest peak in the world (8,848 metres) by Hillary and Tenzing.
The Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Ganesh Raj Joshi, unveiled the monuments of Hillary and Tenzing in International Mountaineering Memorial Park situated in Kakani hill station, 35 km west of Kathmandu.
The monuments include pictures of the legendary mountaineers and a stone inscription of their brief introduction and contributions.
Joshi said the memorial park will be developed as one of the popular tourist destinations in Nepal.Hillary and Tenzing have helped popularise Nepal in international arena, he pointed out.
