A US diplomat would travel to India this week to hold meetings with the External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and the Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai on a series of bilateral and regional issues, US State Department has said.
Wendy Sherman, US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, will also visit two Central Asian Republics — Kazakhstan and Kyrgyz Republic. The exact date of the trip has not been announced by the State Department.
In New Delhi, Sherman will meet Salman Khurshid and Ranjan Mathai, government officials and civil society to discuss strategic partnership between the two countries.
“In her meetings with External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai and other Indian officials, she will continue our consultations on areas of bilateral concern, including coordination on regional issues, counter-terrorism cooperation and deepening security and economic ties,” the State Department said.
In Astana, Kazakhstan, the Under Secretary will deliver her speech at Eurasian University on US support for the New Silk Road vision, as well as meet Kazakh officials to affirm America’s partnership with the Republic of Kazakhstan and underscore the importance the country places on the Government’s stated commitment to greater openness and democracy, it said.
Whereas, in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, Sherman will meet government officials and parliamentarians, as well as representatives from civil society groups focused on democracy and good governance, the State Department announced.
