Use of technology for customers' benefit stressed

Technology has to be used as a tool by employees in a company to bring tangible business benefits to customers. The focus of companies has to be always on customers and their problems, Mr Muthukumar Ramalingam, Managing Director and CEO, Dextrasys Technologies, Tiruchi, said.

‘Campus to corporate' path for students was a new direction leading to a new world that recognises customer as the king. Customers were the driving force for a company, Mr Muthukumar Ramalingam said, delivering a lecture on ‘Launch Your Career — Win All the Way' organised recently by the Department of Commerce and Financial Studies, Bharathidasan University, under the aegis of BL Club.

Employees have to keep working hard to meet the needs of the customer, he said, encouraging them to be innovative in their job. Team work, rather than individual intelligence, was the shortest path for success. Attitude was more important than aptitude.

Success formula

Positive attitude alone leads to success, and communication skills further enable employees to accelerate their career progression, he said, and also explained the importance of value systems such as leave policies, e-mail policy, gender sensitivity policies and exit guidelines in corporate set up.

Unlike in India, students in developed countries were exposed to business earlier. This is the factor which differentiates graduates in developed and developing countries, Mr Muthukumar said. In an interaction with MBA students that followed, he provided further insights into customer-centric business models. Students of MBA Financial Management and MBA Marketing Management benefited from the interaction.

Elaborating on the utility of Business Line for MBA students, Mr M. Selvam, Head, Department of Commerce and Financial Studies, observed that in the prevailing scenario of competitiveness, dedication of employees towards their jobs was key to their success.
