Full two months into monsoon, water levels at major hydro-electric (power) generation reservoirs in Karnataka have increased substantially.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, the level as on July 29, at Linganamakki, Supa and Varahi reservoirs has increased and is higher than the 10 years' average and also the previous year levels.
The level at Linganamakki reservoir has increased by 4.70 ft. The present level is higher by 3.20 ft compared with the 10 years' average and also more by 16.85 ft against the number during the corresponding period last year. Inflow was highest on July 24 at 39,495 cusecs.
The level at Supa reservoir has increased by 10.17 ft. It is 11.52 ft higher than the 10 years' average and more by 40.15 ft against the corresponding period last year.
The level at Varahi reservoir has increased by 4.95 ft. The current level is more by 6.88 ft compared with the 10 years' average and more by 17.68 ft compared with the corresponding period of previous year levels.
Cauvery Basin
The levels at KRS, Harangi, and Hemavathi reservoirs have increased while Kabini reservoir saw a decline in the last eight days. The levels in Harangi and Kabini reservoirs are lesser compared with the corresponding period of 10 years average levels.
The Harangi reservoir level has increased slightly by 0.25 foot. The current level is less by 0.35 foot compared with 10 years' average and more by 2.05 ft when compared with the corresponding period, previous year levels.
The Hemavathi reservoir level has increased by 5.55 ft. The current level is higher by 7.37 ft compared with 10 years average' and also more by 19.73 ft compared with the corresponding period of previous year levels.
The KRS reservoir level has increased by 5.36 ft. The current level is more by 6.41 ft compared with 10 years' average and more by 25.56 ft against the corresponding period of previous year levels.
The Kabini reservoir level has decreased slightly by 0.01 foot. The current level is lesser by 0.62 foot compared with 10 years' average and also lesser by 0.72 foot against the corresponding period of previous year levels.
Krishna Basin
The levels at Bhadra, Tungabhadra, Ghataprabha, Malaprabha and Narayanapur reservoirs have increased. These levels are higher compared with the corresponding period of 10 years' average and also previous year levels.
The level at Bhadra reservoir has increased by 3.71 ft. The current level is more by 10.38 ft compared with the 10 years' average and also more by 15.12 ft against the corresponding period of previous year levels.
In Tungabhadra reservoir, the level increased by 6.70 ft. The current level is more by 8.10 ft compared with the 10 years' average and also more by 17.70 ft against the corresponding period of previous year levels.
In Ghataprabha reservoir, the level increased by 11.10 ft. The current level is more by 18.77 ft compared with 10 years' average and also more by 25.75 ft compared with the corresponding period of previous year levels.
In Malaprabha reservoir, the level increased by 3.93 ft. The current level is more by 8.88 ft compared with 10 years average level and also more by 7.42 ft compared with the previous year's level for the corresponding period.
In Almatti reservoir, the level increased by 0.43 foot in the last 8 days. The current level is more by 2.92 ft compared with the 10 years' average and less by 1.35 ft compared with the previous year's level for the corresponding period.
In Narayanapura reservoir, the level increased by 1.71 ft. The current is more by 1.30 ft compared with 10 years' average and more by 0.39 foot compared with the corresponding period of previous year's level.
