Wipro Consumer Care enters LED lighting segment

Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting has entered the domestic LED lighting segment.

The FMCG arm of Wipro Ltd launched a 5.5-W LED bulb which replaces a 40-W incandescent lamp. LED lights, which help save more than 85 per cent energy compared to an incandescent bulb, also have a longer life.

These bulbs can run up to 50,000 hours compared with 1,000 hours of an incandescent GLS (general lighting service).

Wipro already has a presence in the commercial and the domestic lighting solutions segment with its CFL range. “ We expect the sale of the energy efficient lighting solutions to go up,” said Mr Sanjay Gupta, Vice-President, Domestic Lighting, Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting. Wipro Lighting manufactures and markets the Wipro Brand of compact fluorescent lamps, commercial & industrial luminaries and lamps.

The LED market in the country grew 36 per cent in 2010 while the Rs 8,000-10,000 crore lighting business itself grew 18 per cent.
