The World Steel Association (WSA), a premier global steel industry body, today elected ArcelorMittal Chairman, Mr Lakshmi Mittal, and JSW Steel Vice-Chairman, Mr Sajjan Jindal, to its 15-member Executive Committee.
Mr Mittal and Mr Jindal were elected by the WSA Board at its 45th annual conference in Paris for a period of one year till October 2012, the association said in a communique.
The executive committee also has representatives from JFE Steel Corporation, Posco, Severstal and Nippon Steel, among others.
The WSA, which provides global leadership on major strategic issues, is represented by over 170 top global steel producers, who account for around 85 per cent of the world’s steel output.
Meanwhile, Mr Xiaogang Zhang, President of Anshan Iron and Steel Group Corporation, has taken over as the new Chairman of the WSA Board, succeeding JFE Holdings Inc President and CEO, Mr Hajime Bada.
“We welcome Xiaogang Zhang as the new Chairman, Hajime Bada and Alexey Mordashov as Vice-Chairmen and John Surma as Treasurer. We are also delighted to welcome our new members on board,” WSA Director-General, Mr Edwin Basson, said.
Mr Zhang’s tenure is for one year as well.
