Teas worth about Rs 3.50 crore remained unsold at Sale No: 39 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions as there were no takers for about 30 per cent of the eight-week high offer of 13.44 lakh kg despite shedding prices by Rs 2 a kg.
Homedale Estate tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the CTC market at Rs 156 a kg. Vigneshwar Estate got Rs 141, Shanthi supreme Rs 137 and Hittakkal Estate Rs 135. In all, 76 marks got Rs 100 and more.
Among orthodox teas from corporate sector, Chamraj got Rs 200, Highfield Estate Rs 178, Corsley Rs 166, Havukal and Kairbetta Rs 161 each and Kodanad Rs 160. In all, 33 marks got Rs 100 and more.
“Whole leaf orthodox leaf market eased Rs 5-10 a kg and others, Rs 1-2. High-priced CTC leaf lost Rs 3-4 and better mediums Rs 2-3 while some plainers could not be sold even after shedding up to Rs 5. Primary orthodox dust market eased Rs 5-7 and others, Rs 4-5. Export demand was weak with only skeletal purchase for Pakistan for Rs 77-84 a kg and the CIS Rs 70-89.
Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging Rs 70-73 a kg for plain leaf grades and Rs 95-120 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged Rs 73-79 for plain dusts and Rs 100-140 for brighter liquoring dusts.
