Nearly 81 per cent of the 13.11 lakh kg on offer at Sale No: 9 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association’s pre-Budget auction was sold.
Four grades of bought-leaf factories, entered the high-price bracket of above ` 200 per kg. ‘Broken Orange Pekoe Small’ grade of Darmona Tea and Industry, auctioned by J Thomas and Company auctioneers, topped the entire CTC tea market and Leaf auction fetching ` 248 a kg. Broken Orange Pekoe grade of Homedale Estate (` 202) was the only other tea to enter this bracket in the Leaf auction.
Pekoe Dust grade of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the Dust auction fetching ` 215 and its Red Dust grade (` 207) was the only other grade to enter this bracket in the Dust market. In all, 85 marks got ` 125 and more.
Among orthodox teas from corporate sector, Chamraj topped at ` 255 followed by Kodanad ` 244, Kairbetta at ` 243, Havukal ` 210, and Corsley ` 201. In all, 51 marks got ` 125 and more per kg.
Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging ` 50-54 a kg for plain leaf grades and ` 100-165 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged ` 62-64 for plain dusts and ` 110-175 for brighter liquoring dusts.
There was some purchase for Pakistan in the range ` 62-81 a kg.
