Nearly 92 per cent of the year's lowest offer of 8.76 lakh kg was sold at sale No: 16 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions with prices raising by Rs 2 a kg.
Homedale Estate tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the CTC market at Rs 167 a kg. Vigneshwar Estate got Rs 156, Hittakkal Estate Rs 144, Darmona Estate Rs 137 and Waver Tree Rs 134. In all, 89 marks got Rs 100 and more.
Among orthodox teas from corporate sector, Chamraj got Rs 246, Glendale Rs 225, Curzon Rs 172, Havukal Rs 170, Highfield Estate Rs 164, Parkside Rs 163, Kairbetta Rs 162, Erinkadu, Katary and Mailoor Rs 161 each. In all, 41 marks got Rs 100 and more.
“Orthodox leaf market gained Rs 2-3 a kg. High-priced CTC leaf lost Rs 1-3 but mediums gained up to Rs 2. Primary orthodox dust fetched Rs 5-10 more. High-priced CTC dust eased Rs 2-5 but mediums gained Rs 2-4,” an auctioneer told Business Line .
On the export front, Pakistan bought selectively for Rs 54-76 a kg.
Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging Rs 50-54 a kg for plain leaf grades and Rs 95-167 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged Rs 60-66 for plain dusts and Rs 90-166 for brighter liquoring dusts.
