Tamil Nadu could get a centre of excellence in the area of supply chain management and ripening of fruits with expertise provided by the Netherlands.
The National Horticultural Mission and the State Government will also be involved in setting up the centre.
In fact, there are eight such centres coming up across India. This is part of an agreement signed between India and Netherlands to create such centres in areas like horticulture, agro-based industries and green house emissions, said Alphonsus Stoelinga, Netherlands Ambassador to India.
With many multinational retail companies foraying in to India, it is critical that there is a good supply chain network, he said at an interaction with members of the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In the first phase, such centres will come up in Kerala, Gujarat and Maharashtra. In the second phase, there will be centres in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, he said.
Stoelinga said that Dutch companies would also be interested in areas like integrated water management, harbour planning and life sciences.
