The big western disturbance preparing to exit North-West India continued to dump heavy rain and snowfall into Wednesday. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand bore the brunt during the 24 hours ending in the morning.

MOVING EAST

In the plains, many places over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh received rain or thundershowers. One or two places in north Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh too received rain signalling the footprint of the disturbance. Rain or snow may lash Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday before tapering off.

Heavy rain or snowfall has been warned over one or two places in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand the same day. This shows that the big system and entourage are leaving Northwest India and moving east and further away.

CHILL TO RETURN

Accompanying weather — as in rain, snow or hail — too will track east and unravel over East and North-East India over next two days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers over Assam and Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.

Rain or thundershowers would occur at one or two places over east Madhya Pradesh and Bihar during next two days and over Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, sub- Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh from Thursday onwards. The away movement of the westerly system would leave the plains for colder winds from across the border to fill.

RAIN IN SOUTH

Minimum temperatures may fall 4-6 deg Celsius over North-West and adjoining central India over next two days. As was expected, the westerly system had enough power to sweep the two peninsular oceans under its influence. Associated winds mopped up moisture and dumped same as rain selectively over extreme south peninsula on Wednesday.

Forecast valid until Saturday said that thundershowers would occur at one or two places over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep. Extended forecast valid until Wednesday said thundershowers may continue to lash parts of extreme south .
