Amidst speculations of higher crop, prices dropped almost Rs 6 a kg over the previous week at the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association which ended on Friday. However, the lower price enabled more volume to be sold. Consequently, producers and traders have earned as much as 13.65 per cent more than last week.
Prices dropped to an average of Rs 82.66 a kg from Rs 88.44 last week. This helped the volume sold to rise to 13.50 lakh kg from 11.10 lakh kg.
Consequently, the overall turnover increased to Rs 11.16 crore from Rs 9.82 crore. This marked an increase of Rs 1.34 crore in just one week to post a growth of 13.65 per cent.
This is the highest turnover to be fetched here in several weeks.
The average price of leaf grades dropped to Rs 82.90 a kg from Rs 88.77. The average price of dust grades fell to Rs 82.04 from Rs 87.61.
