A volume of 13.81 lakh kg would be offered for Sale No: 21 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction to take place on Thursday and Friday, reveals an analysis of the brokers’ listings.
It is 1.03 lakh kg less than last week’s offer but as much as 5.06 lakh kg more than the offer this time last year. Of the 13.81 lakh kg on offer, 10.17 lakh kg belongs to the leaf grades and 3.64 lakh kg belongs to the dust grades.
As much as 13.02 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 0.79 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both the leaf and dust grades.
In the leaf counter, only 0.50 lakh kg belongs to orthodox while 9.67 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 0.29 lakh kg belongs to orthodox while 3.35 lakh kg, CTC.
Of the 13.81 lakh kg coming up for sale, fresh tea accounts for 12.14 lakh kg. About 1.67 lakh kg comprises teas which had remained unsold in previous auctions.
