A volume of 14.92 lakh kg will be offered at Sale No: 7 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions to be held on Thursday and Friday has risen, reveals our analysis of the brokers’ listing.
It is about 90,000 kg more than last week’s offer and as much as 3.85 lakh kg more than the offer this time last year.
Of the 14.92 lakh kg on offer, 11.05 lakh kg belongs to the leaf grades and 3.87 lakh kg belongs to the dust grades.
As much as 14.12 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 0.80 lakh kg, orthodox variety.
The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both the leaf and dust grades.
In the leaf counter, only 0.48 lakh kg belongs to orthodox while 10.57 lakh kg, CTC.
Among the dusts, only 0.32 lakh kg belongs to orthodox while 3.55 lakh kg, CTC.
Fresh tea accounts for 13.47 lakh kg while about 1.45 lakh kg comprises teas which had remained unsold in previous auctions.
Upcountry buyers are stepping up their purchases here as the volumes in North Indian auctions are low.
The orthodox leaf and Darjeeling leaf auctions as also sale No: 11 for all categories of tea at Kolkata auction scheduled for next month have been dropped for want of adequate volume.
Besides, Sale No: 13 of Kolkata auction will also be dropped due to Good Friday and Holi holidays and low volumes.
“These are expected to strengthen demand at Coonoor”, an auctioneer told Business Line .
