India has been elected to International Coffee Organisation’s (ICO) ‘Promotion and Market Development Committee’.
At the International Coffee Council (ICC) meet held at London, India has been elected as coffee exporting member along with Brazil, Cameroon, Colombia, Costa Rica, Indonesia, Mexico and Tanzania.
The country’s entry to global platform is likely to gain a lot from ICO’s promotion agenda in key emerging markets such as China, Russia and few Asian countries, said people associated in coffee trade. The platform is also likely to help create global awareness to country’s diverse shade grown coffees as well. India has been elected to ‘Statistics Committee’ and for ‘Finance and Administration Committee’. Andrea Illy, representing Italy, is the Chairman of the committee. Among the importing members, the European Union, Switzerland and the US have been elected. The ICC has also approved a market development plan made by Illy.
At the opening session, Council designated Rusteacoffee as a member of the ICO Private Sector Consultative Board for 2011-12 and 2012-13. “This is the first time that a private sector association from the Russian Federation has been represented on the board. The board comprises 14 associations from consuming and producing countries and is currently chaired by Robert Nelson of the National Coffee Association of the US with Ricardo Villanueva of ANACAFÉ, Guatemala as Vice-Chairman,” ICO said.
