Inferior quality grinds turmeric bl-premium-article-image

Spot turmeric prices at Erode markets decreased on Tuesday for want of demand and quality.

“Only medium and poor quality turmeric arrived for sale, so traders quoted lower price and procured minimum number of turmeric bags. Further, the traders have not yet received any fresh demand from North India, so only a few participated in the auction, ” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

He said only 2,400 bags of turmeric arrived for sale, but 1,190 bags were sold.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, finger turmeric fetched between ₹3,449 and ₹6,169 a quintal, root variety ₹3,249 and ₹5,591.

Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,529-6,491 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,699-5,777. Of the 470 bags that arrived, 92 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹4,949-5,838 and the root variety ₹4,819-5,820. Of the 355 bags on sale, 347 were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,169-6,239; the root variety ₹4,499-5,853. Of the 830 bags put up for sale, 807 were sold.

At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric ruled at ₹4,990-6,180 and the root variety ₹4,890-5,660. All the 166 bags found takers.
