Oilmeal exports dropped 58 per cent in August to 1,33,404 tonnes against 3,17,161 tonnes in same period a year ago, largely due to lower crushing of soyabean due to high prices.

In last five months, the rise in soyabean prices has led to disparity in prices of soyameal in the international market. However, rapeseed meal export increased 43 per cent to 5,13,785 tonnes in last five months, making up for the dip in soyameal shipments.

Between April and August, oilmeal export was down 36 per cent at 8,64,929 tonnes against 13,55,980 tonnes in the same period a year ago.

Export to South Korea was marginally higher at 4,16,918 tonnes (4,16,043 tonnes) in the last five months.

South Korea imports consist of 2,30,539 tonnes of rapeseed meal, 1,84,832 tonnes of castor meal and 1,547 tonnes of soyameal.

Shipments to Iran dipped sharply to 1,27,182 tonnes (4,72,361 tonnes) including 35,500 tonnes of soyameal and 91,682 tonnes of rapeseed meal.

Thailand and Vietnam imported of 93,542 tonnes (97,728 tonnes) and 65,630 tonnes (63,266 tonnes), respectively. Import by Taiwan, Indonesia and Europe fell sharply.

Soyameal prices were down at $616 a tonne against $652 in July, while rapeseed meal dipped to $229 a tonne ($251). Export from Kandla accounted for 75 per cent at 651,831 tonnes, followed by Mumbai which handled 98,115 tonnes, Bedi and Mundra handled 32,197 tonnes and 45,812 tonnes.
