Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar will attend a turmeric farmers’ conference to be held here on August 25 to discuss the issue of steep fall in prices of the yellow spice.
“Pawar had agreed to attend the conference aimed at highlighting the plight of the farmers and the need to enable them to fix the price of turmeric,” All-India Turmeric Farmers Federation Chairman D K Deivasigamani said in a release on Saturday.
He said turmeric, which was sold at Rs 17,000 a quintal two years ago, touched a low of Rs 3,500 in June before recovering to Rs 7,000 a quintal at present.
In connection with the conference, a rally would be conducted from Kodumudi to Erode, which is among the major turmeric markets in the country, the release said.
