A mixed trend persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. In sale no 44, the quantity on offer in the CTC dust grades was 11,34,500 kg.
The market for good liquoring varieties and popular marks were firm to dearer. Others were irregular and sometimes lower.
However, the plainer and low priced varieties were steady to firm and occasionally dearer. Better enquiry was noticed from exporters on medium and plainer teas and upcountry demand was fair.
The quantity on offer in the orthodox grades was 6,500 kg and the market moved up in value following enquiry from exporters.
In the best CTC dusts, PD grades quoted Rs 99/118, RD varieties fetched Rs 106/143, SRD ruled at Rs 115/150 and SFD stood at Rs 120/160.
The quantity on offer in the orthodox leaf grades was 156,000 kg. The market for all Nilgiri varieties was steady to dearer following quality.
Medium clean black well-made bolder brokens and whole leaf were fully firm. Tippy grades from the same origin remained barely steady and tended to ease. It also witnessed heavy withdrawals.
The quantity on offer in the CTC grades was 85,500 kg. The market was irregular and lower and witnessed some withdrawals. Upcountry buyers lent useful support, while export enquiry was less.
In the dust category, Manjolai SFD quoted the best prices of Rs 160 followed by Manjolai SRD and FD at Rs 157 each. In the leaf grades, Chamraj OP-Delight (green tea) fetched the best prices of Rs 352 followed by Chamraj FP-sup at Rs 269.
