The Department of Agricultural Entomology at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has developed a device to remove adult insects and crush the eggs present in stored grains.

This device, according to University sources, would be useful to rice millers, grain traders and farmers, who generally store grains and want to ensure that the stored produce is insect-free.

This hand-operated device has a grain feeding hoper, insect cleaning unit, an outlet to collect the crushed insect separately and another for collecting the treated grain.

According to a TNAU release, the capacity of the machine is 5 to 10 kg in 5 to 10 minutes.
