The Climate Prediction Centre (CPC) of the US National Weather Services continues to track behaviour of a low-pressure area over Andaman Sea.
There has been convection (cloud-building leading to storm development) over the Bay and the Andaman Sea in recent times, CPC said in its latest weather analysis.
MODERATE CHANCE
In its forecast for the week ending December 4, it said that there is ‘a moderate chance’ of storm development in the region.
It also noted weather systems in the sea have not been getting the required feedback from upper levels to develop into full strength as storms.
CPC expected the prevailing low-pressure area to break the jinx, though there is no firm indication whether it would manage to go the whole hog.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) had expected the ‘low’ to become ‘well marked’ in the first stage of intensification as early as from two days ago.
HEAVY RAIN, SNOW
In its evening bulletin on Thursday, it merely sought to extend the same outlook for a couple of days more.
It has warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall at one or two places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during next two days.
A circulation over Southeast Arabian Sea Rain may bring thundershowers at one or two places over south Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep during this period.
Meanwhile in the north, a prevailing western disturbance is expected to drop heavy rain or snow over Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
LIGHT IN PLAINS
A short-term outlook valid until Sunday said that rain or snow would continue to occur at one or two places in Jammu and Kashmir.
Similar weather has been forecast at a few places over Himachal Pradesh and at one or two places over Uttarakhand on Friday.
Light rain or thundershower may break out over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh.
No significant change in temperatures is expected over northwest India until Friday but may drop by 2 to 3 deg Celsius during nights thereafter.
