For the third consecutive week this calendar, the volume offered for Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions this week crossed 20-lakh-kg mark. It has soared to 20.53 lakh kg at Sale No. 29 to be held on Thursday and Friday, reveals an analysis of the brokers’ listings.
This is the highest offer so far this year. It is about 13,000 kg more than last week’s offer.
Of the 20.53 lakh kg on offer, 14.70 lakh kg belongs to the leaf grades and 5.83 lakh kg belongs to the dust grades. As much as 19.53 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only one lakh kg, orthodox variety.
In the leaf counter, only 0.47 lakh kg belongs to orthodox, while 14.23 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 0.53 lakh kg belongs to orthodox while 5.30 lakh kg, CTC.
In the leaf auction, Hindustan Unilever Ltd operated on better medium varieties. In the Dust auction, HUL was selective. Indcoserve showed some interest on smaller grades. Exporters chose medium and plainer varieties. There was good demand for brighter liquoring teas from upcountry buyers.
