A weather warning issued by India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday said that isolated heavy rainfall would break out over east Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Orissa on Saturday and Sunday.

The latter three are among those where rain deficits of varying amounts have been persisting through the season.

ACTIVE MONSOON

The rain-driving monsoon trough was lying south of its normal position, with the western end likely to exhibit north to south oscillation on Saturday and Sunday.

An IMD weather outlook for this period said that the monsoon is likely to remain active over parts of central India and west coast during this period.

The US National Centres for Environmental Prediction sees rains breaking out all across the western flanks of the country during this period and into the next week.

Starting from the west coast, a blob of rains is forecast to sit over west Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, before venturing into the immediate north.

The enhanced rain wave could cut through east Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the forecast said.

TWIN TYPHOONS

Rest of northwest India and east-central India also stand to get moderate to heavy rains while the rest of the country would likely see scattered to isolated rains.

Meanwhile, northwest Pacific has already seen one of the predicted twin typhoons named Nanmadol ramp up fast and become a super typhoon on Friday.

‘Nanmadol' was getting ready to strike the Philippines early on Saturday morning before proceeding towards Taiwan.

The other storm, named Talas, is forecast to be steered into the open Pacific to the east and become a super typhoon in its own right before blasting its way into Japan.

WET WEATHER

Back home, a short-term outlook valid until Monday by the IMD said that fairly widespread rain or thundershowers would break out over east Rajasthan, Gujarat, central and adjoining peninsular India and along the west coast.

In the east, Orissa, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands are expected to get widespread showers during this period.

It would be fairly widespread over the western Himalayan region and scattered over plains of northwest India.

Scattered rain or thundershowers has been forecast over the remaining parts of the country.
