The Tea Research Association (TRA), Tocklai, Assam, which is more than a 100 years old, has launched a mobile application to disseminate information quickly.
Named TRA Tocklai, the application has been put on the Android and iOS platforms.
“This is the first such mobile application in the world on tea research,” said Joydeep Phukon, Secretary, TRA, who conceived the application.
M.G.V.K. Bhanu, Chairman of the Tea Board, launched it recently at TRA’s annual general meeting here.
The Tocklai Tea Encyclopaedia, which is considered the Bible on tea research undertaken in the past 100 years or so, has been uploaded in this application.
In book form, the Encyclopaedia runs into 1,000 pages.
“There is a provision whereby planters and small growers, even in remote estates, can get answers to their queries on real-time basis,” Phukon said, adding, “this would help people in the tea industry obtain information on Indian tea”.
