There has been no respite for Northwest India from cold and fog conditions during the 24 hours ending Friday morning.
Neither does the outlook for next two days offer any, if India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin is anything to go by.
MORE WARNED
It has warned of dense fog conditions over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, North Rajasthan and Northwest Madhya Pradesh during next two days.
The biting cold will set off ground frost in Punjab, North Rajasthan, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and Northwest Madhya Pradesh during the two nights.
Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, North Rajasthan and Northwest Madhya Pradesh may see fog conditions progressively easing during this period.
Fog would abate from most parts Indo-Gangetic plains from Monday onwards due to strong winds and expected decrease in moisture supply.
COLD WAVE
But cold wave conditions are expected to prevail over parts of Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
No significant change in minimum (night) temperatures is seen Indo-Gangetic plains and adjoining Central and East India.
Light rain or snow has been forecast at one or two places over Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
An extended outlook valid until January 11 said that ‘wind chill’ (brought in by cold Arctic air) would be felt over Indo-Gangetic plains as winds pick up in speed.
A feeble western disturbance may start affecting western Himalayan region from two days prior to this.
RAIN IN SOUTH
Elsewhere, rain or thundershowers has been forecast at a few places over South Tamil Nadu over the next two days.
One or two places over North Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep even as tropical storm ‘Sonamu’ promises incremental moisture for Bay of Bengal into next week.
Rain or thundershowers is likely over Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
Extended outlook said that light rain or thundershower may break out over Northeast India and extreme south peninsular India next week. (vinson.kurian@thehindu.co.in)
