Launch of farmers’ contact programmes, new dairy products and a gold loan scheme marked the beginning of ‘Cooperative Week’ celebrations by different cooperatives in Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday.
Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr K. Padmanabha, President of Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative (Campco) Ltd, said that Campco has launched ‘farmers contact’ programme to mark the ‘Cooperative Week’.
In this, the board of directors and the officials of Campco visit the houses of farmers in villages and interact with them.
Added to this, the farmers are also invited to the Campco’s offices in various places to interact with officials.
Asked about the feedback from such contact meets, Mr A.S. Bhat, Managing Director of Campco, said that the shortage of agriculture labourers is affecting most farmers. He got such feedbacks during his visit to many houses in Dakshina Kannada district, Mr Bhat said.
Campco is planning to meet at least 10,000 farmers under this programme, he added.
GOLD LOAN
The South Canara District Central Cooperative (SCDCC) Bank began the ‘Cooperative Week’ with the launch of a loan scheme for the purchase of gold.
Launching the scheme at a function here, Mr M.N. Rajendra Kumar, President of SCDCC Bank, said the parents are finding it difficult to buy gold at the time of the marriage of their children. This scheme provides an opportunity for them to buy gold three years ahead of the marriage.
DAIRY PRODUCTS
In the same function, the Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd launched five new products in the market. Mr Raviraja Hegde, President of the cooperative union, said that these products are aimed at different segments of society.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Krishna Palemar, Karnataka Minister for Ports and in-charge of Dakshina Kannada district, highlighted the role of cooperatives in women empowerment.
He opined that the cooperatives should be allowed to become self-reliant.
Mr N. Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly, urged the cooperatives to take active role in tourism development in coastal Karnataka.
