The Centre would continue to provide funds to Tea Research Association in Tocklai in the 12th Plan period.
Union Minister of Commerce, Industry and Textile Anand Sharma in a letter to Department of North East Minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar assured that appropriate funding for the Tea Research Association has been proposed in the 12th Plan proposal of the Tea Board, official sources said today.
However, the finalisation of proposals for the 12th Plan was likely to take some time and Planning Commission has indicated June 30, 2013 as the tentative date.
A letter in this connection was also sent to Tocklai Employees Union as its delegation had recently met the Union Minister for the same.
Tocklai Employees Union secretary Loknath Saikia welcomed the Union Minister’s assurance for continuation of funding to the pioneering tea research centre.
