Aiming to tap the domestic market, the Coir Board has drawn up a new marketing strategy to boost sales. The board has appointed new stockists, franchisees and canvassing agents throughout the country to increase the sales.
Coir Board Chairman G. Balachandran said in a statement that the board is targeting a sales turnover of Rs 100 crore through this new marketing strategy.
During 2012-13, the sales turnover of coir products from the board showrooms and sales depot was about Rs 21 crore, he said.
As part of the scheme, stockists would be appointed in each zone. The first stockist was appointed by signing an MoU in this regard. Around 500 stockists are expected to be appointed throughout the country.
As per the new marketing strategy, he said that coir and coir products would be displayed in small shops and furniture shops also.
The board has also set a target of achieving Rs 3,000-crore sales turnover from the domestic market during the 12th Plan Period, he added.
