The prices at Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions, which have been on a downward path the past few weeks, have dipped to 14-week low levels.
This week prices averaged Rs 59.69 a kg against Rs 60.05 the previous week. This is the lowest price since August 25 when prices had dipped to Rs 59.36.
This week, quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging Rs 43-48 a kg for plain leaf grades and Rs 80-130 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged Rs 45-50 for plain dusts and Rs 85-136 for brighter liquoring dusts.
Among orthodox teas from corporate sector, Chamraj got Rs 175, Curzon Rs 169, Kairbetta Rs 163, Havukal Rs 162 and Corsely Rs 156. In all, 30 marks got Rs 100 and more. Among CTC teas, Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped when Kalpraj Corporation bought it for Rs 140 a kg. Vigneshwar Estate got Rs 136, Hittakkal Estate and Shanthi Supreme Rs 132 each, Sree Tea Supreme Rs 131 and Blue Monte Speciality Rs 128. In all, 58 marks got Rs 100 and more.
On the export front, Pakistan bought in wide range – Rs 48-75 a kg and the CIS Rs 49-60.
