This week at Sale Number 14, at three North Indian tea auction centres, there was good demand for CTC, according to J Thomas & Company Pvt Ltd., the tea auctioneers.
Nominal weight of Assams sold between Rs 195 and Rs 246 while fannings ranged between Rs 185 and Rs 196. Good Dooars brokens sold between Rs 175 and Rs 200. Selected better lines appreciated. Plainer dooars ranged at Rs 125-140. Local buyers were the mainstay of the market.
Nominal weight of new season Orthodox witnessed good enquiry and sold at levels higher compared to last year. CIS and West Asian shippers were active. Local dealers operated for cheaper sorts.
There was no Darjeeling sale this week.
The offerings (packages) at Kolkata comprised CTC/Dust 16,207 as compared to 5,622 in the corresponding Sale (No. 14) of last year and Orthodox 1402 (909). The corresponding figures for two other centres, dealing mainly CTC/Dust, were Guwahati 6,501 (2,761) and Siliguri 31,529 (14,333).
