The Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) will launch innovative programmes on food science education in association with various industrial bodies.
The first meeting of Industry Advisory Board (IAB) has decided to set up an academic-industrial partnership at the varsity to upgrade food science education by enhancing the industrial skill of the students and ensuring easy employability.
At a time when the quality of processed food is a concern, KUFOS is ready to utilise its resources to conduct relevant issue-based research projects with the industrial support, B Madhusoodana Kurup, Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the IAB, said.
Services of experts from industrial bodies are essential to improve research work, he said adding, that KUFOS will start short-term courses in the areas of food processing, quality assurance, value addition etc. by utilising the expertise and service of those from the industry.
The meeting also stressed the need for developing and reviewing periodically the syllabus for food science courses at KUFOS in accordance with the relevant requirements of food processing industry.
As part of the varsity’s industrial partnership, KUFOS will seek the support of various industrial bodies to shape the skill development of the students in accordance with the demand of the food production industry.
