Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said that it is too early to take a view on whether the delayed monsoons would impact food production in the country.
The Minister was in Hyderabad for the inaugural function of the three-day G20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting.
Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the meeting here on Thursday, he said the current challenges that the agricultural sector was facing were not just India’s. “The challenges are global. All countries should work together to find solutions. I hope G20 would deliberate on the issues and find solutions. We will learn from one another,” he said.
The meeting would discuss various issues related to sustainable agriculture, climate-smart agriculture, food security, nutrition, inclusive agricultural value chains, food systems, and digitalisation for agricultural transformation.
The Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Family Welfare, Kailash Choudhary inaugurated an exhibition where achievements of various Ministries, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Telangana Government showcased.
The first session, ‘Managing Agribusiness for Profit, People, and Planet, discussed the importance of robust supply chain systems. In the second session on ‘Connecting the Digitally Disconnected: Harnessing the Power of Digital Technologies in Agriculture, panelists deliberated on exploring strategies for scaling up and replicating the best practices of digital agriculture initiatives in various countries.
About 200 representatives from G20 countries and ten other countries attended the meeting.
