Good demand persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction last week. The quantity on offer in the CTC dust category was 12,17,000 kg.
Clean black well made varieties coupled with useful liquoring properties were dearer by Rs 2 to Rs 3 and sometimes more. Others were irregular and sometimes lower.
In the Orthodox dust category, the quantity on offer was 16,500 kg. Primary grades were dearer, while secondary was irregular and lower. Bulk of the offering was absorbed by exporters.
In the best CTC dusts, PD varieties quoted at Rs 98/107, RD grades stood at Rs 102/110, SRD quoted at Rs 105/106 and SFD at Rs 101/112.
Of 1,84,000 kg on offer in the Orthodox leaf sale, the demand for Nilgiri was better while it was good for other varieties. All varieties of Nilgiri appreciated by Rs 5 to Rs 10 and sometimes more.
Medium select best bolder brokens and tippy grades remained steady to firm, while whole leaf was irregular and sometimes lower. Corresponding fannings were higher.
In the CTC leaf grades, the quantity on offer was 1,43,000 kg. Good liquoring barely remained steady, while others were irregular and sometimes lower with some withdrawals.
In the dust category, Injipara (Prm) SRD quoted at Rs 138 followed by Injipara (Prm) RD at Rs 135. In the leaf varieties, Pascos Hyson Green Tea quoted at Rs 296 followed by Chamraj FOP Green Tea at Rs 276.
