Good demand lifted prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction last week. In the CTC dust category, the quantity on offer was 12,54,500 kg.

Good liquoring grainer varieties were firm to dearer by Rs 2 to Rs 3 and sometimes more. Powdery grades were irregular and tended to ease. Medium and plainer grainer varieties showed strong feature and were dearer by Rs 2 to Rs 4 and sometimes more. Corresponding powdery grades were firm to dearer by Re 1 to Rs 3.

In the Orthodox dust category, the quantity offered was 14,500 kg. Primary grades were steady to dearer, while others barely remained steady. Bulk of the offerings was absorbed by exporters.

In the best CTC dusts, PD varieties quoted at Rs 95/105, RD grades stood at Rs 98/106, SRD at Rs 100/108 and SFD at Rs 101/110.

The leaf category witnessed a good demand and the quantity on offer in the Orthodox leaf was 111,500 kg.

The select best Nilgiri Brokens and whole leaf barely remained steady, while others were irregular and lower. Corresponding Fannings was fully firm to dearer. Medium tippy grades were fully firm to irregularly easier. While others were lower and witnessed some withdrawals.

CTC leaf was in good demand and the quantity on offer was 121,000 kg. Good liquoring types were barely steady to firm, while others were irregular and lower.

In the dust category, both Injipara (Prm) SFD, SRD and RD quoted the best prices of Rs 135. In the leaf grades, Chamraj FOP – Green Tea quoted the best prices of Rs 321 followed by Pascos Hyson Green Tea at Rs 301.
