Better demand has firmed up the prices of some select tea varieties in CTC dust category at Kochi auction this week.
With 94 per cent of the offered quantity of 9,68,000 kg getting sold in sale no 19, the market which opened on a firm note, was dearer by ₹2 to ₹3. However, plainer teas were barely remained steady and tended to ease.
Leading blenders along with Kerala Loose Tea traders were active on good liquoring teas, while there was subdued demand from exporters.
According to auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis, orthodox sale witnessed good demand with the market for primary grades firm to dearer. The quantity on offer was 10,500 kg. Exporters and upcountry buyers absorbed bulk of the 10,500 kg on offer.
In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good grades fetched ₹108-144, mediums quoted ₹98-120 and plain category stood at ₹90-103.
In leaf category, the market for Nilgiri brokens in orthodox grades was irregular and tended to ease, while whole leaf was firm to dearer. The quantity on offer was 112,000 kg.
However, in CTC grades, good liquoring varieties were firm to dearer with the support lent by exporters and upcountry buyers. The quantity on offer was 61,000 kg.
In dust grades, Pasuparai RD quoted the best prices of ₹158 followed by Pasuparai SFD at ₹146. In leaf category, Chamraj OP-Delight (green tea) came to the top quoting ₹426 followed by Chamraj OP at ₹306.
