Good demand perked up the prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. In sale No. 2, the quantity on offer in dust CTC grade was 10,91,500 kg.
Market for good liquoring teas and popular marks was higher by Rs 5-10 and more as the sale progressed.
Medium and plainer teas were appreciated by Rs 3-5 and more following quality. However, there has been a subdued demand from exporters who confined to medium and plainer teas.
The quantity on offer in orthodox category was 7,500 kg and the market was fully firm to dearer. A small quantity on offer was absorbed by exporters.
In the best CTC dust, PD varieties quoted Rs 97/116, RD grades fetched Rs 109/146, SRD ruled at Rs 120/151 and SFD at Rs 132/180.
Orthodox leaf sale also witnessed good demand with the market for select best Nilgiri brokens and whole leaf fully firm to dearer.
The quantity on offer was 167,000 kg. Others were irregular and lower. Fannings were absorbed by upcountry buyers and exporters.
The quantity on offer in CTC grade was 55,000 kg. The market was dearer by Rs 2-4 and sometimes more following quality. A fair enquiry was witnessed from exporters.
In the dust varieties, Monica SFD quoted the best prices of Rs 180 followed by Kallyar SFD, Mayura SFD and Waterfall SFD at Rs 160 each. In leaf grades, Chamraj FOP – (S) (Green Tea) fetched the best prices of Rs 291 followed by Pascoes Hyson Green Tea at Rs 290.
