Following 10.26 per cent increase in June's output, India's overall tea production in the first half of current calendar has posted 5.71 per cent growth over the corresponding period of 2010, reveals an analysis of the latest data available with Tea Board and producers' organisations.
In June, India's production rose by 10.67 million kg (mkg) over June 2010 to soar to 114.71 mkg. Consequently, the overall production in the first half increased by 19.35 mkg over H1 of 2010 to peak at 358.32 mkg. While North Indian states posted an increase of 23.90 mkg in the first half, South Indian states suffered a setback to the tune of 4.55 mkg.
H1 production in North increased to 236.20 mkg from 212.30 mkg. All tea producing regions posted an increase over last year except Cachar in Assam where there was a marginal fall.
