Harrisons Malayalam Ltd has launched Moongalaar Gold, a new CTC tea in the local market to maintain quality of teas auctioned at Kochi and Coimbatore. The product will be launched at the Kochi tea auction on August 16.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr Pankaj Kapoor, Managing Director of Harrisons Malayalam, said that the launching of the brand coincides with the company's recentlymodernised and expanded Moongalaar factory in the Peermede-Kumili region of Idukki. The company is having its own captive gardens of over 3,600 acres and will now dedicate it primarily for producing high quality CTC dust teas, he said.
The company has made huge investments in a new fermentation system and high capacity driers to make teas suited specifically for the Kerala palate. He said that the Kerala consumer has become selective and quality conscious with a willingness to pay more for quality teas. This has been reflected in the steady prices fetched by the better marks available at the sale, he said, adding that CTC dust teas are preferred in the South, especially Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
