Heavy rain regime associated with erstwhile cyclone ‘Nilam’ has migrated to eastern coast and neighbourhood.
A remnant low-pressure area from ‘Nilam’ hung over Rayalaseema, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.
EASTERLY RAIN
A weather warning for next two days said that heavy rainfall would occur at one or two places over Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh. The 24 hours ending Friday morning saw rainfall being recorded at most places over Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Many places over Odisha and south Chhattisgarh also witnessed rain during this period as did a few in north Chhattisgarh, south Tamil Nadu, Marathawada, madhya Maharashtra and Gangetic West Bengal. Vijayawada (13 cm) and Nandigama (11 cm) in Andhra Pradesh received very heavy rainfall.
WET OUTLOOK
Satellite imagery on Friday afternoon showed rain-bearing clouds over parts of north Andhra Pradesh, south Chhattisgarh, Odisha, coastal Karnataka and south-east Bay of Bengal.
Extended forecast valid for the next seven days said that scattered to fairly widespread rainfall would occur over east and adjoining Central India.
Scattered rainfall has been forecast over north eastern States as a western disturbance currently located over north Pakistan moves in and heads towards east. The lowest minimum of 11.2 deg Celsius was recorded at Amritsar.
MERCURY DIPS
Minimum temperatures were above normal by 2-4 deg Celsius over parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, east Madhya Pradesh and Odisha. Meanwhile, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts has forecast surplus rains for extreme southern peninsula during November, December and January.
WARM IN SOUTH
Central India and adjoining east-central peninsula is forecast to be warmer than usual during this period. It will be normal for the rest of the country to the north, indicating a winter that is neither too cool nor warm.
