A volume of 21.15 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 35 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction to be held on Thursday and Friday.
This is as much as 1.45 lakh kg more than last week’s offer.
Of this, 14.11 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 7.04 lakh kg, dust grades. As much as 19.53 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.62 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 93,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 13.18 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 69,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 6.35 lakh kg, CTC.
Only three grades of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, entered the high-price bracket of ₹200 a kg among the CTC teas from bought-leaf factories last week. Of them, Homedale Pekoe Dust topped the Dust auction and the entire CTC market when Benniel and Co bought it for ₹247 a kg. Its Red Dust (₹216) and Super Red Dust ( ₹215) were the others to fetch high-price.
