Kerala High court on Monday restrained Plantation company Harrisons Malayalam Ltd (HML) from selling or transferring about 1490 acres of land in Kaliyar estate in Thodupuzha district.
The interim order was issued by a division bench comprising justice M Shashidharan Nambiar and justice P Bhavadasan while considering an affidavit filed by Government complaining that during the pendency of dispute regarding owernship of land, the company had taken steps for amalgamation and entered into an agreement for transferring the land.
“As any amalgamation or merger would only be subjected to the final orders to be passed by the Court, affecting the properties involved in this case, we do not find it necessary to restrain the holding of the meeting convened on Aug 17 and August 18, the bench held.
HML should not alienate any property without the court’s permission till the disposal of the case, the court held.
Harrisons Malayalam Ltd, Enchanting Plantations, Malayalam Plantation and Harmony Plantations are the four companies which were to be amalgamated.
