Increased arrivals lifted the prices of several varieties of tea at Kochi auction last week.
Good liquoring teas in CTC dust and teas, which came under the selection of major blenders, were firm to dearer.
In sale no 3, the quantity on offer in CTC dust was 11,91,500 kg, showing an increase compared to last week. With good demand, plainer varieties were steady to firm and sometimes appreciated in value. There was better export enquiry for medium and plainer teas.
However, others varieties were irregular and lower by ₹2 to ₹3 and sometimes more, auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.
Arrivals in Orthodox grades also registered an increase of 17,500 kg with primary grades remaining steady. A small quantity sold was absorbed by exporters. Others were irregular and lower, witnessing withdrawals.
In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties quoted ₹90-151, medium fetched ₹66-110, while plain grades stood at ₹55-65.
Leaf sale also witnessed some improvement in prices with increased arrivals at 2,00,500 kg, especially in Orthodox grades. Market for Select Best Nilgiri Brokens, Whole Leaf, and Fannings was steady to firm and sometimes dearer.
Good demand also witnessed for CTC leaf with 89,500 kg offered. Good Liquoring Brokens and Fannings was firm to dearer. Others were barely steady and tended to ease.
In dust grades, Manjolai SFD/Mayura SFD quoted the best prices of ₹151 followed by Monica SFD at ₹150. In leaf category, Chamraj FOP fetched the best prices of ₹381 followed by Chamraj FOP-S (Green Tea) at ₹330.
