The MeT department has warned of heavy rain in Odisha in the next two days due to formation of a fresh low pressure area over Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood.
The low pressure, formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood under the influence of a cyclonic circulation, is likely to trigger heavy rains in many parts of Odisha till August 21, the Meteorological Centre here said.
Under its impact, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to take place at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Balangir, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts, it said.
There would be extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada districts in next 24 hours, it said.
Some places over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall on August 21, it said.
In view of the adverse weather conditions, the MeT centre has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast during next 48 hours.
Most parts of Odisha have been lashed by heavy rains under the influence of several spells of low pressure areas since early this month. However, there is no likelihood of immediate flood as major rivers in the state are flowing below the danger level, said an official.
