A mixed trend in prices was noticed at Sale Number 38 at Kolkata tea auction this week. According to J Thomas & Company Pvt Ltd, the tea auctioneers, the average CTC price inched up marginally to Rs 143.67 per kg from last week’ s Rs 143.01 per kg while the average Orthodox price was lower at Rs 212.65 per kg (R 225.61 per kg).
However, more CTC and less Orthodox volumes remained unsold this week compared to last week. An estimated 25.13 per cent (19.59 per cent) of CTC and 10.94 per cent (14.12 per cent) of Orthodox volumes offered remained unsold.
