The South-West Monsoon has started retreating from some parts of west Rajasthan, the Indian Meteorological Department has said. On September 9, the monsoon has withdrawn from Ganganagar, Bikaner and Barmer districts.

In its forecast for the week ahead, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in isolated places over the southern parts of the country mainly in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalseema, north Tamil Nadu, coastal Karnataka, south interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshwadeep over the next couple of days.

Rainfall was also predicted in few places over West Bengal and Sikkim, Odisha and north eastern States.

IMD said the country as a whole received six per cent more rains till September 11 since the onset in June. The cumulative seasonal rainfall was above normal over all regions except the east and North-East India, where it was 25 per cent below normal of the long period average. Out of 36 meteorological subdivisions, the rainfall so far, has been excess in over eight subdivisions, normal in 22 and deficient in six, mainly in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Jharkhand, Bihar and Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. In terms of area wise distribution, 86 per cent of the area of the country received excess/normal rainfall, while the remaining 14 per cent received deficient rains.
