Oilmeal exports declined 16 per cent to 3.02 lakh tonnes in May due to a sharp fall in the shipments of soyameal.
“Export of oilmeal during May 2013 is reported at 3,02,837 tonnes compared with 3,59,855 tonnes in May 2012 i.e. down 16 per cent,” Solvent Extractors’ Association of India Executive Director B.V. Mehta said in a statement.
During the first two months of the current fiscal, oilmeal exports have declined 34 per cent to 5,02,005 tonnes against 7,62,945 tonnes in the same period previous year.
The association has pointed out that exports of soyameal have fallen drastically to 1,95,943 tonnes during April-May period of 2013-14 fiscal from 4,56,420 tonnes in the year-ago period.
Major importers of oilmeal from India are South Korea, Iran, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Japan.
Oilmeal exports to Japan fell 88 per cent to 10,141 tonnes during April-May compared with 84,989 tonnes in the corresponding period previous year.
Shipments to Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, South Korea, Iran and Europe also fell during the review period.
Iran imported 1,48,234 tonnes of oilmeal during April-May this fiscal compared with 1,50,974 tonnes in the year-ago period.
