Oilmeal exports dipped for the third consecutive month in July due to high soyabean prices in the domestic market curtailing crushing by the oil mills. Exports in July were down 37 per cent to 115,094 tonnes compared to 182,133 tonnes in the same period last year.

Rise in soyabean prices lead to disparity of soyabean meal in the international market. However, share of rapeseed meal has increased 53 per cent to 408,410 tonnes from 267,461 tonnes in last four months, according to a statement issued by the Solvent Extractors Association of India.

Soyabean meal prices were down $652 a tonne against $696 a tonne in June while rapeseed prices dropped six per cent to $251 a tonne ($267 a tonne in June). Rupee depreciated in June to 60.10 from 59.74 against dollar.

In the first four months of this fiscal, oilmeal exports were down 31 per cent to 721,577 tonnes (1,038,819 tonnes).

Except for South Korea all major importers including Iran, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Indonesia and Europe reduced their shipments from India.

Imports

Oilmeal import by South Korea from India between April and July was up marginally at 341,548 tonnes compared to 325,768 tonnes in the same period last year. It consisted of 171,572 tonnes of rapeseed meal, 168,562 tonnes of castor meal and 1,414 tonnes of soyabean meal.

Iran imported of 112,275 tonnes compared to 363,744 tonnes last year consisting of 35,500 tonnes of soyabean meal and 76,775 tonnes of rapeseed meal.

Thailand and Vietnam imported 76,208 tonnes (86,233 tonnes) and 45,032 tonnes (49,967 tonnes), respectively. Shipments by Europe dipped sharply to 40,717 tonnes (110,134 tonnes).

Exports from Kandla at 544,827 tonnes, accounted for 76 per cent of the total oilmeal. It was followed by Mumbai (including JNPT) at 84,791 tonnes, Bedi 32,197 tonnes, Mundra 35,786 tonnes and Kolkata handled 23,844 tonnes.
