The Centre will continue the open market sale scheme (OMSS) for wheat with a few modifications, the Ministry of Food and Public Distribution announced here on Tuesday. OMSS refers to the selling of wheat at pre-determined prices in the open market to ensure supply during lean times to help moderate prices.
“The sale of wheat under the scheme will be continued after March 31 only in non-wheat procuring States, i.e. those excluding Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, NCT of Delhi and UT of Chandigarh,” said an official statement.
