The pepper prices on Friday remained unchanged on limited activities. There were neither any arrivals nor any off take today. Availability of the material is said to be tight as Tamil Nadu based dealers were buying at Rs700 a kg on cash and carry basis from the doorsteps of growers.
Rains are also pointed out as a reason for the squeeze in supply, market sources told Business Line . The landed cost of Sri Lankan pepper 500 GL imported under free trade agreement at $9,500 a tonne would come to around ₹650 a kg, they said.
Spot prices remained unchanged at ₹69,000 (ungarbled) and ₹72,000 (garbled) a quintal.July, August and September contracts on the IPSTA remained steady at ₹72,000, ₹71,000 and ₹69,000 a quintal.Indian export prices were at $10,850 a tonne c&f for Europe and $11,100 a tonne c&f for US.
