Spot pepper prices fell sharply on Thursday on selling pressure. Reported availability of 1,200 tonnes of exchange released pepper at ₹400 a kg has also influenced the markets negatively, trade sources told Business Line .
They said imported Sri Lankan pepper was being sold at ₹390 by bill and ₹110 by cash.
On the terminal market, 21 tonnes were traded. High range pepper was traded at ₹415 while Pulpally and Bathery material went for ₹405 . Plains pepper mixed with Sri Lankan stuff fetched ₹390. Spot prices fell by ₹500 to close at ₹40,800 (ungarbled) and 42,800 (garbled) a quintal. Export prices were at $6,700 a tonne c&f for Europe and $6,950 a kg for the US.
